The data presented in our paper, especially, Fig 1 clearly indicates a declining trend of laboratory confirmed JE cases in the Gorakhpur division which is not observed in JE negative AES cases. The JE incidence has shown a decline since 2010 and was observed in all the four districts of Gorakhpur division. This decline could be artificial (such as due to under-reporting of JE positive cases only) or real. However, there is no apparent reason to believe that this decline could be artificial, as all the AES patients were uniformly investigated for JE etiology.
