Response: Warm breastshields and pumping

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this letter.First, we would like to inform the correspondent that the warm breastshield is not a commercial product, but it was designed to provide a controlled means of warming the breast to test the principle of the effect of warmth on the are-ola and nipple on milk flow. It is possible, without the use of electricity, to provide some warmth to the breast (taking care not to use temperatures more than 2°C higher than body temperature). More importantly, this study shows that mothers who are expressing their milk, either by hand or using a breast pump, should avoid cooling the breast and nipple.
