Glencore's affiliate Prodeco has completed more than 40 percent of the construction on Puerto Nuevo, sources tell Coal Americas. "Prodeco has invested more than US$190 million, and the company expects to complete the construction during the fourth quarter of 2012," a source said. Prodeco was awarded a 30-year concession to operate the port in 2011. Puerto Nuevo will have the capacity to handle 35 to 40 million tonnes/ year of coal.
