摘要

Hauck FR, Thompson JMD, Tanabe KO, Moon RY, Vennemann MM. Breastfeeding and reduced risk of sudden infant death syndrome: A meta-analysis. Pediatrics. 2011;128:103-110. Despite the well-documented benefits of exclusive breastfeeding through the first 6 months of life, this practice is uncommon in many cultures. Lactation consultants frequently encounter formula supplementation of breastfed infants, even before hospital discharge. In other settings, traditional ritual feedings are commonly used as prelacteals. These widespread issues leave lactation consultants wondering how they can convince their clients to comply with the recommendations that infants be exclusively breastfed. This Research Spotlight column highlights an article that adds to the growing evidence base in support of the health benefits of exclusive breastfeeding.
