Healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) remain high on the political agenda and our trust had an ambition to develop an interprofessional learning (IPL) project focused upon reducing avoidable HCAIs (the terms 'interprofessional learning' and Interprofessional education' (IPE) are used interchangeably). Funding for a two year project was secured, with a requirement for the project to be developed and formally evaluated through an action research study to provide evidence of outcomes and the impact of IPL in an acute hospital setting (Reeveret al, 2008).
