Cinnamomi ramulus,the stem of Cinnamomum Spp.,is a commonly used Chinese herbal drug [1],and contains coumarin,cinnarmyl alcohol,cinnamal dehyde,cinnamic acid,2-methoxycin namal dehdye,and cinnamyl acetate [2-4] as its bioactive constitutents (Figure 1).Several methods have been established to determine some or all of these compounds in the crude drug such as gas chromatography[5],reversed-phase LC[6-12]K,TLC-scanner [13],and SFE-GE[14].However,LC is now still the msot popular tool for herbal analysis and few of these methods are entirely adequate because of either low resolution or poor baseline stability.Capillary electrophoresis is a widely applied technique in separation science on account of its high efficiency,rapid rate of separation,and small sample requirement,and has offered satisfactory results in the analysis of some Chinese herbs[15-18].Here,we developed an HPLC and a CE methods for determining the six xinnamomi constituents simulatanesously.The stuitabilities of these tow methods were compared and discussed.
