Description of the Longhead Dab Limanda proboscidea (Pleuronectidae) Larvae from the Sea of Okhotsk

The larvae of mass species widely distributed in the northern Pacific, Limanda proboscidea, from 3.1 to 10 mm notochord length (1) were described from the eastern Sea of Okhotsk (the shelf of the western Kamchatka). The diagnostic characters of the la rvae were revealed based on the material of the author and published data. These characters were as follows: small size of early larvae, one or two short dorsal pigment spots approximately at a level of the posterior third of the body, prolonged postanal row of large melanophores in the ventral part of the body, and narrow pigment row as a continuous line along the lower margin of the belly, In the process of larval development, the intensity of pigmentation became higher, relative body depth increased, and both relative anteanal distance and eye diameter decreased.
