The hand in art: Remembering the hand surgery profession while in Western Europe

Looking back at pictures from a recent family vacation to Spain and Portugal, I found it fascinating to see the use of the hand in everyday objects and remember the hand surgery profession. For example, while walking the streets of Madrid, we just happened to notice this interesting doorknob on the front door of a house (Fig. 1). Also, we were fortunate enough to have lunch in a charming restaurant in Segovia, Spain, that bears the same name as the hand club of which I am a member (Fig. 2).
