Is it possible to improve the histological yield of oesophageal endoscopic mucosectomies?

At present, endoscopic resection of dysplasia in Barrett's oesophagus is a well-consolidated therapeutic approach [1 ]. However, Barrett's epithelium with or without dysplasia may be missed on mucosectomy specimens, especially when buried islands are present [2-4]. Thus, improving the yield of pathological results after mucosectomy is a major goal, especially concerning the resection margins [3]. Here we report a relatively simple method for more complete histological evaluation of resection margins after mucosectomy for dysplasia in Barrett's oesophagus.
