Screening of chickpea germplasm accessions for resistance to collar rot.

A total of 1229 chickpea germplasm accessions received from the NBPGR-ICAR Network Project during 2001-06 were screened for resistance to collar rot (caused by Sclerotium rolfsii [Corticium rolfsii]) in multiple disease sick fields in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India. The promising lines were further tested in the consecutive years. Among 1229 chickpea germplasm accessions, 120 genotypes exhibited (less than) 10% mortality whereas 80 lines were moderately resistant, 362 susceptible and 667 highly susceptible to collar rot. Some The 120 lines exhibiting resistance were further evaluated in disease sick fields for 3 consecutive years and 32 entries performed consistent resistant reaction to collar rot. Twelve accessions were found free from collar rot during the testing years under high disease pressure.
