摘要

A reduction in cortical benzodiazepine receptor binding potential on 1-123 iomazenil SPECT images indicates cortical neural damage or loss. We present the case of a 63-year-old man who underwent endarterectomy for symptomatic cervical internal carotid artery stenosis. While MR imaging 1 month after surgery revealed ischemic lesions only in the white matter of the affected cerebral hemisphere, 1-123 iomazenil SPECT at the same time demonstrated the absence of tracer uptake throughout the entire cerebral cortex, where global ischemic lesions and brain atrophy had developed on MR imaging performed 1 year after surgery.
