In the paper "Unified PCN and PCS indices: Methodof calculation, physical sense, and dependence on the IMFazimuthal and northward components" by Oleg Troshichevet al. (Journal of Geophysical Research, 111, A05208,doi:10.1029/2005JA011402, 2006), two errors should benoticed. One appears in equation (1). Here the D and Hcomponents have been interchanged in the formula. Thecorrect version is Of = SH sin -y SD cosy.(1) We have carefully checked to verify that the erroneousformula has not been used in the programs used to handlethe magnetic data. Thus the error is a typo withoutconsequences for the data processing and the results reported in the paper. However, the correction is importantin order to avoid inadvertent use of the erroneous equation.[2] The second error appears in the name of the magneticcomponent displayed in Figure 1. Figure 1 is used toillustrate the method for determination of the quiet levelin evaluation of the magnetic deviations. Figure 1 actuallydisplays the D (not the H) component of the magnetic fieldmeasured at Vostok station in June 2002. Figure 1 is usedonly for illustration, and the corresponding plot of the Hcomponent is very similar. Thus the typo has no conse-quences and is considered to be of minor importance.Janzhura and Troshichev [2008] use the same figure withthe same typo.
