More than 34,000 cardiac operations are performed in the UK each year . Following heart surgery, patients typically stay in hospital for up to a week and require ongoing support from a cardiac rehabilitation team following discharge.Patients are at risk of developing a range of complications and require a range of medicines in both the short and long term to ensure their operation is a success. This article focuses on aftercare following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) or valve surgery.
