Influence of electronic health records and in-office weight management support resources on childhood obesity care

Electronic medical records (EMR); weight management support (WMS) resources, such as dieticians, and standardized weight management protocols could enhance identification and management of overweight and obese children. From 2001 until 2008, EMR system use by physicians increased from 18% to 38%.1 The fact that EMRs can be used for automatic calculation and interpretation of the body mass index (BMI) could promote its use.
