Fever, Hip Pain, and Headache in a 12-Year-Old Girl

A previously healthy 12-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with a 1-week history of headache and left hip pain. Three weeks prior to presentation, she developed fevers to 103 degrees, diffuse abdominal pain, and nonbloody and nonbilious emesis. Three days later, she was diagnosed with left acute otitis media for which she completed a 10-day course of amoxicillin with improvement in her symptoms. One week prior to presentation, the patient developed diffuse headache, photophobia, left hip pain, and a limp, and 3 days prior to presentation, her fevers returned.
