Blast Area Security

Blast area security is the responsibility of everyone involved in the blasting operation and goes well beyond simply controlling access by unauthorized personnel. Insufficient blast area security is still a major cause of blasting related incidents. Poor or lax security can expose the public and job-site personnel to potential hazards such as flyrock, accidental detonation, dust and fumes, and ground failure. A reasonable person could surmise that this would also be the most easily preventable cause. However, the root cause can be a difficult condition to manage. It's only human nature to become complacent after extended periods performing repetitive tasks.
