Planning for the Future

As we enter our second quarter, we in North America are continuing to see a gradual return to confidence in business, with many small companies being optimistic for increased sales and hiring.The "Optimism Index" of the National Federation of Independent Business is now at its highest level since the recession began in December of 2007. Some certainty for the 2011 construction industry comes with the signing of an extension to surface transportation funding by President Obama. We now need to see a multi-year surface transportation bill passed to assist companies with long term business planning and resource allocation. We are seeing strength in the mining industry as demand for raw materials continues to grow. Some miners are even predicting a shortage of skilled workers in the mining industry in the not too distant future. As industry leaders, we need to research the opportunities that are out there to find employment for our blasters, who must be willing to travel to where the work can be found.
