摘要

Impact of prolactin on lipid metabolism has been studied in a tropical freshwater catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis during resting phase of its annual reproductive cycle. The present finding indicates that effect of prolactin on hepatic lipogenesis depends on the time of prolactin administration (with respect to onset of light) as well as interval between tissue autopsy and injection. Study revealed that prolactin had immediate and short-term inhibitory effect on lipid synthesis. This inhibitory effect was withdrawn with the time elapsed after prolactin injection. Rate of withdrawal was found to be faster and greater when prolactin was administered in the late hours of light phase.
