摘要

The novel approach described by Reilly and Chuter to resolve spinal cord ischemia after endovascular thoracoabdominal aortic aneu-rysm repair should be noted by all involved in this field. This is the first anatomical alternative to improve circulation to the spinal cord after endograft placement. All other measures have used physiological means to improve collateral circulation and avoid and/or treat spinal cord ischemia following endovascular coverage of critical pathways' that provide blood flow to the anterior spinal artery. In this regard, these physiological measures represent the front line in prevention and treatment. Both induced hypertension and spinal catheter drainage have been shown to be effective at reducing the incidence of spinal cord injury after open or endovascular thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair.
