Making education stick!

There is a growing awareness of weaknesses that exist in the education of health care providers. The Institute of Medicine reported that today's health care providers are not being adequately educated or evaluated to maintain the proficiency needed to ensure safe, high-quality care. Combining this with increasing patient acuity and staffing shortages, we have a recipe for disaster. We must ask ourselves: What do we currently understand about effectively providing education, and what must we do to make education stick in a busy health care environment?
