While pharmaceutical technology applies formulation strategies to render a chemical substance into a safe and effective drag, biopharmaceutics describes the interaction of the drug and its formulation with biological systems. Both pharmaceutical disciplines are of decisive importance in the drug development process. At the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Geneva-Lausanne located at the University of Geneva (in French: Ecole de Pharmacie Geneve-Lausanne, EPGL), both groups are integrated in the framework of a complete school of pharmacy, offering training and performing research in all pharmaceutical fields, literally from "bench to bedside". Created in 2004, the School comprises fundamental research units in Biopharmaceutics, Life Science Mass Spectrometry, Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacochemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, and Phytochemistry and Bioactive Natural Products.
