Inner canthus hypertrichosis: a side effect of prostaglandin analogue treatment for glaucoma.

We report an unusual case of ectopic bilateral inner canthus terminal hair growth in a patient treated with topical latanoprost, a prostaglandin-F_(2alpha) (PGF_(2alpha) analogue, for glaucoma. Prostaglandin analogues and beta-adrenoreceptor blocking agents are used for lowering intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma. Prostaglandin analogues are sometimes more effective but are a second-line choice after beta-blockers because of their side effects. Hair changes are a known side effect of PGF_(2alpha) analogue treatment for glaucoma and include an increase in eyelash number, length, and pigmentation; vellus hair growth on the eyelid; and hypertrichosis of the malar region.3 Eyelash trichomegaly may be reversible on discontinuing this treatment.
