Human immunodeficiency virus (HlV)-associated facial lipoatrophy (FLA) represents a common and highly stigmatizing side effect of retroviral therapy. By causing loss of subcutaneous adipose tissue mainly in the cheek, temple and periocular area, FLA can significantly affect the patient's quality of life, both physically and psychologically. A limited quantity of data has been published on various filling substances for the management of FLA. Here, the authors present two patients with HIV-associated FLA successfully treated with a novel HA filler over a period of 24 months.
