Nanotechnology in cosmetics and sunscreens: an update.

Over the past two decades, nanotechnology has been pursued and developed at a rapid pace. In 1990, approximately 1,000 scientific publications on nanotechnology were published and over 200 nanotechnological patent applications were filed.1 Cumulatively by 2002, these numbers increased to include 22,000 manuscripts published worldwide, and over 1,900 patent applications filed-a clear representation of the growing interest and financial investment in this biotechnology.
