The diffusion of innovations theory could help laboratorians in research translation.

Prof. Plebani returns, this time together with Prof. Marincola, to the fascinating topic of research translation in Laboratory Medicine (1, 2). I hope that all laboratorians heartily endorse the closing words of the paper "... by paying more attention to the effective translation of research insights, ... laboratory services will thus be transformed from simple testing facilities into knowledge services" (1). Laboratorians will be inspired by these contributions in turning "from managers of testing facilities with simple assays into service providers of powerful diagnostic methods essential to their clinical colleagues" (2).
