Nightbl1ndness of children workers colony of pantnagar - nutritional and health risk study

A study was conducted in Indranagar colony of University Campus (Pantnagar) for examine nutritional and health risk factors associated with nightblindness (XN) under different children age group having low economic status. Study design was used as population based, paired matched, case-control study (N=15) and result reveled that 53.33 percent nightblindness was found under 5 year age group of children while 26.66 and 20 percent in 5-10 year and 10-14 years age of children group in case group, respectively, Anthopometric measurements like height, weight, body mass index (BMI), triceps skin fold (TSF), mid upper arm circumference muscle area and fat area was significantly less in case group children compared to non-case group (control) children, except muscle area and fat area of 10-14 years age group and height, BMI, TSF and fat area of 5-10 year age of children's. Feeding habits indicated that less consumption of food both performed and caroteniod sources of Vitamin A by case group in the past week than control group.1 It can be concluded that nightblindness is highest in the preschool children (0-5 year) than other group. The low economic status is an exposed and excess of Vitamin A deficiency.
