Reaction of with trans-ir(co)(ci)l_2(l =pph_3 intoluene and DMSO; L=TPPMS in DMSO and H_2O, TPPMS=PPh_2(m-C_6H_4SO_3Na)) reversibly produces Ir(co)_2(ci)l_2 or [ir(co)_3l_2] ci depending on the solvent polarity.The solvent polarity has a small effect on the rate of reaction withco; the rate constants in toluene, DMSO and H_2O are all within afactor of two. Comparison to the reaction with H_2 shows that theselecivity for CO is much greater (kco/kh_2 =150) in toluene thanin water(kco/kh_2 =5)
