The production of cis-[CoBr(NH_3)(en)_2]Br_2 byreaction of [Co(H_2O)_2{(OH)_2Co(en)_2}_2(SO_4)_2 withammonium bromide in water was investigated. The reaction seemsto proceed through the intermediate, [Co(H_2O)(OH)(en)_2]~2+,and then convert to the product, cis-[CoBr(NH_3)(en)_2]~2+.This is supported by the observation that the absorption spectrumof the reaction solution immediately after the disappearance of thestarting complex was different from that of cis-[CoBr(NH_3)(en)_2]~2+. In order to confirm this reactionpathway, [Co(H_2O)(OH)(en)_2]Br_2.
