Reporting process for coordinated studies on zoonotic agents, to the Salmonella control programmes and for the national reference laboratories.

This article describes the legal basis and reporting systems used for collection and evaluation of zoonotic data (including spread of zoonoses and zoonotic agents) in Germany. Aspects considered include: coordinated studies on zoonoses at the national and EU level; activities of the national reference laboratory; and role of the Salmonella control programme. Zoonoses reporting procedures used in the EU are also highlighted.
