A Question Answering System for Computer Assisted Learning on the Semantic Web

One of the problems in an online distance learning system is the difficulty of interaction between the student and the teacher. The Virtual teacher in an online learning system should be able to answer the questions posed by a student immediately and hence clear doubts. In this paper the possibility of automatically answering questions posed by a student in a web based distance education system has been investigated. This is achieved by creating an extensive knowledge base. Answers to the question asked are given by the system automatically using this knowledge base. In order to make the system web based the knowledge base is represented in the Resource Description Framework standard (RDF).
