摘要

We congratulate Hill et al on their study "Risk of bacterial colonization of pancreatic stents used in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)." This group retrospectively analyzed a series of 47 patients who underwent ERCP with pancreatic duct stent placement. They reported that 28 of these 47 patients were infected with "clinically significant bacteria." The most common bacteria found were Kleibsiella, Escherichia, Enter-obacter, and Enterococcus. The authors found that the duration of pancreatic stenting correlated with the presence of "clinically significant" organisms. On the basis of this finding, they recommended that pancreatic stents not be left in place for more than 7 to 10 days because of this risk of bacterial colonization.
