Intelligent Computational Nanotechnology: The Role of Computational Intelligence in the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology

摘要

The development and application of algorithms and computational tools to the progress of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (N&N) have created an emerging research area known as Computational Nanotechnology (or Computational Nanoscience). The main goal of this review is to motivate the reader to develop and apply the techniques of Computational Intelligence in order to create new solutions for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (N&N). In order to do so we have made a survey about the advancements and applications of Computational Intelligence in N&N, which we call "Intelligent Computational Nanotechnology" Computational Intelligence is a branch of computer science that uses algorithms and techniques that mimic some cognitive abilities such as recognition, learning and development to create programs, somehow intelligent. Aiming to give a clear view of the "Intelligent Computational Nanotechnology" we have made a brief introduction of N&N, proposing a taxonomy which gives a clear idea of the role of computational tools. Moreover, a detailed description about Computational Nanotechnology is presented, followed by a brief summary about some important Computational Intelligence techniques. We do believe that the combination of these research areas will allow a solid development of N&N,creating optimized nanostructures and nanodevices in a quick and efficient way.
