Kids versus trees: Reye's syndrome and spraying for spruce budworm in New Brunswick.

In 1978, joined McGill University as a new Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and the Department of Epidemiology and Health (renamed Epidemiology and Biostatistics after Walter Spitzer became Chair of the Department). This was not long after Walter's arrival at McGill from McMaster University. I had met and interacted with Walter several times during my clinical epidemiology training at Yale University under Dr. Alvan Feinstein, with whom Walter had also trained a few years earlier. Walter's recent arrival at McGill University was one of the reasons that I chose to go there as a new faculty member, although I had little or no contact with him during my first few years at McGill. In fact, my only research collaboration with Walter was the study that I will summarize in the remainder of this article.
