Tindaro Renda's symposium in honour of his ''maestro'' Vittorio Ersparmer. Foreword.

In 2008, Prof. Tindaro Renda, a well-known Italian neuroscien-tist (Fasolo and Vaudry, 2011, this issue) decided to organize a symposium in honour of his "maestro" Vittorio Ersparmer. The symposium should offer an update of the current knowledge of different roles of neuropeptides and neurotransmitters in the nervous system. Very sadly, Tindaro passed away a few months before the meeting and the meeting itself became a celebration of both Ersparmer and Renda. Therefore, we decided to honour the memory of Tindaro Renda with a special issue collecting the lectures presented during the meeting and some additional reviews. Our project was strongly supported by the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Chemical Neuroanatomy, Prof. Harry Steinbusch, that was also attending to the meeting.
