Adding aripiprazole to clozapine worsened delusions and hallucinations: a case report.

Recent surveys have found that the use of combined antipsychotics is a common practice in psychiatry.1 The recommendations on combination treatment with antipsychotic agents vary across the literature and are generally intended to increase efficacy and to decrease side effects.1 Currently, aripipra-zole is the only available dopamine 2 receptor partial agonist with antipsychotic properties However, its advantages and disadvantages as a combination therapy with other antipsychotics have not been fully understood. There is some evidence that combining aripiprazole with other antipsychotic agents improves negative symptoms of schizophrenia. However, few anecdotal reports raise concern about exacerbation of psychosis.
