摘要

This report describes a simple and effective one-pot protocol for methylation of the antipsychotic drug chlorpro-mazine (CPZ) that is suitable as a laboratory exercise in an undergraduate organic chemistry course for science majors or an upper-division bioorganic chemistry course. By performing this protocol, students will gain experience in the microscale synthesis, purification, analysis, and characterization of an organic drug derivative and in the measurement of reagents in micro-quantity. In addition, students will gain appreciation of how subtle changes in biomolecular structure can have important biological and physiological effects.
