Designing Element T-shirts:Spelling with the Periodic Table

At many schools National Chemistry Week(NCW)is cause for celebration each year.We wanted to promote NCW with the high school students at North Collins Central School in a fun way while also incorporating a lesson on the periodic table.This year,we utilized an activity where students use element symbols to write either their names or a common word and then print the words in periodic-table-style boxes onto t-shirts using iron-on transfer paper.Our main goals were to have students become more familiar with the periodic table and to learn element notation.
