There are so many fascinat-ing elements in the periodictable that it's difficult to choosejust one as a favorite. Dependingon the day, my favorite elementshifts and shimmies. There are,however, a handful of elementsthat are always near the top ofmy favorite pile, and since I ama toxicologist, is it any wonderthat one of them is the elementmercury? It exists in a variety offorms and every last one of themis toxic to some extent.
