BACKGROUNDFive microalgal strains characterized by high biogas tolerance and rapid growth were cultured in biogas slurry to identify strains capable of simultaneous nutrient removal and biogas upgrading. The potential contribution of these algae to these processes was evaluated for different photoperiods.
