Unexpectedly resolved multiple mobile thrombi in a normal thoracic aorta associated with colorectal cancer and protein C deficiency

CASES IN WHICH AORTIC THROMBI have been found to cause peripheral arterial embolism have been increasing due to the wide availability of transesophageal echocardiogra-phy (TEE).1 However, a mobile thrombus on a normal thoracic aorta intima is still rare, and it has no standard treatment protocol.2 The authors present the first case in which multiple large mobile thrombi in a normal thoracic aorta were caused by systemic hypercoagulation from colorectal cancer and protein C deficiency, and in which the thrombi completely disappeared after resection and oral aspirin therapy without any other surgical or medical intervention for the thrombi.
