Almost every forensic restoration project starts the same: a phone rings. It is at this point that a forensic restoration specialist asks the crucial "who, what, where, when and how" questions to acquire critical incident data (CID). This allows specialists to prepare themselves, their team and equipment to respond in a professional manner to whatever particular incident they are called on to respond to. In a perfect world, a specialist would ask the right questions and get the right answers. But it's not a perfect world, is it? The following is a true story, but the names have been changed to protect the incompetent.
