摘要

Economic development and growth in emerging markets depends on supply chain infrastructure that includes roads, ports, services, technology and workforce. Emerging markets will always have their appeal, but unanticipated infrastructure challenges - anything from faulty ports and roads to unreliable power to Byzantine taxation and customs regimes - can cause pain for even the best and most experienced multi-nationals. For the sake of clarity, an emerging market is one in which the per capita income is steadily rising and where, in fact, there is a rapidly developing middle class. By this definition Brazil, India and China certainly make the cut, as do some parts of Latin America, a few countries in Africa and central Asia, and most of Southeast Asia.
