Oman’s Muscat Steel to launch electric steelmaking complex in October

Oman’s Muscat Steel has postponed the launch of a new 200,000 tpy steelmaking complex to the fourth quarter. As soon as semis production is commenced, the company will be able to stop square billet imports (at first partially, then fully). The company representative says the shop construction is finished. The equipment (80% of which has already been delivered to the site) will be installed in June. The shop will comprise a 35-tonne EAF, a 35-tonne ladle furnace and a three-strand billet conticaster. Billet production will start in October.
