Believe it; do it; share your knowledge with your coworkers. At a glance, electric motor nameplates may not look much alike. But thanks to NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association), most of the information found on nameplates is standardized. NEMA's Standard MG-1, "Motors and Generators," a thick binder, painstakingly spells out both mechanical and electrical details of ac and dc motors and generators, including information that must be given on the nameplate.
