Just after midnight on Christmas 2011, a border collie named Kirby alerted his owner that something was very wrong. When his owner let him outside, he noticed strobe lights and alarms going off at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and School in Greendale, Wis. Assuming it was a burglary, the neighbor called the police. When they arrived, they found the 74-year-old church on fire. Thanks to Kirby and quick-responding firefighters, the fire was contained. However, a large portion of the church and school were damaged by the fire or covered in soot. The cause of the fire was never determined.
