Getting fired can be a truly traumatic experience. Many psychologists agree that an individual's perception of him-or herself is tied closely with employment. It is easy to understand why a manager's conclusion that an employee is not acceptable for employment can be shattering. Termination directly affects family and friends. Being suddenly out of work obviously impinges on one's ability to meet financial and social responsibilities. It is no wonder that employment termination has become such a fertile field for litigation.
