While there are many within the industry who have never heard of "crowd-funding," a surprising number of manufacturers, distributors, and contractors have not only used crowd-funding to underwrite the costs of special events, promotions, and sponsorships, but they're now using it to finance their businesses. That's right, today there is little doubt that crowd-funding is rapidly becoming a viable and legitimate financing option. Long used by charities, non-profits, and even a few entrepreneurs to raise money for worthy causes and special projects, today crowd-funding is challenging venture capital and angel funding as an alternative source of financing for many small businesses.
