Health and safety issues command a lot of attention inside and outside the contemporary workplace. Homeland security is one reason. Everyday quality of life is another. Many government agencies take a keen interest in workplace activities that affect health and safety. They range from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at the U.S. Dept. of Labor to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
