USGS Study Shows Pesticide Levels In Ground Water,Streams in Nation

Pesticides present in streams and ground water are not at concentrations likely to harm humans but might harm fish,according to a study U.S.Geological Survey released this year.USGS conducted a comprehensive study from 1991-2001 and searched for 83 compounds,said Robert Gilliom,an official with the National Water-Quality Assessment Program at USGS.At least one pesticide was detected in water from all streams studied and throughout most of the year in water from streams with agricultural or mixed-land use watersheds.
