Water Treatment Residue to Drink Phosphorus from Agriculture Lands

Water treatment plants might have a new way to dispose of residue and save runoff if they team up with farmers.Scientists from the Agriculture Research Service(ARS)have found that residue from water treatment plants could make good soil treatments for preventing phosphorus loss from farms.Jeffrey Novak,a researcher with ARS's Coastal Plains Soil,Water and Plant Research center in Florence,S.C.,is studying an alum-based water treatment residue that increases the soil's capacity to adsorb phosphorus for plant nutrients.
